Adrianus Kundert is a designer based in Rotterdam who experiments with colours and materials. His work includes product, material, surface and spatial design. He has founded collaborative projects such as the Basketclub, where weavers and artists produce a basket or woven object based on a monthly emoji theme.
Kundert’s project Ripening Rugs is a series of rugs that come to life through intensive use. New colours, textures and patterns appear in places where the rug has been used most. The idea was to develop a rug that becomes more beautiful as it wears, so it will not be replaced quickly, as happens with normal wear and tear. Ripening Rugs incorporates many different materials that enhance the durability of the rug. A rug that lasts but changes over time should, in theory, be more valuable to the user.
