Rosanne van der Meer

Personal Knitwear for Everybody

Rosanne van der Meer is a textile and fashion designer who reinvents knitwear from her studio, The Place, in Amsterdam. Van der Meer believes that the clothing industry can and must become more sustainable – and creating a demand-driven high tech knitwear supply chain for highly durable clothing is, to her, the way to move in this direction.

Van der Meer found a way to combine 3D knitting with an on-demand system to create what she calls Personal Knitwear for Everybody. Using a network of 3D knitting machines allows for local production that is instigated by demand or order, eliminating back stock. It also allows the designer to work directly with the consumer, who can have access to the same knitting ‘patterns’. Van der Meer has created a collection of 3D knitted merino wool jumpers, dresses and leggings that are seamless and durable.
