Joined Forces

Tristan Frencken has been operating his design studio in Den Bosch since 2004. He and his team produce minimal designs that make optimal use of interior space while still presenting a striking visual effect.

Frencken’s Joined Forces stool emerged from a material study of natural fibres and bio-composite resin; when a fibre is stiffened with a resin, it gains resistance against external forces. Frencken bundled these hardened fibres, which demonstrate the same principle as steel cables in their tensile strength: while an individual thread can support 260g, 350 threads can support 98kg. Joined Forces demonstrates the technical capabilities of properly applied natural materials and is a nod to the adage ‘stronger together. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
