Klaar van der Lippe
De Broodzaak
Klaar van der Lippe is an artist known for her subversive interventions and social sculptures in urban public spaces. Performance forms the basis of her art, which includes films, costume design, sculpture, and video.
Though baking bread is something many people enjoy, the messy kitchen that is left behind is hardly appealing; plus the cleanup uses large amounts of water. One alternative can be a bread machine, but that has the disadvantage of being energy-intensive. De Broodzak – bread bag – is a silicone mould van der Lippe designed to facilitate bread making without getting dough everywhere, but also to celebrate the tactility and artistic performance that is bread-making. The entire process – from mixing the ingredients, kneading the dough, to rising and baking – takes place inside the bag.
