Alexander Pelikan

CLICDINER chair

Alexander Pelikan designs furniture and decorative objects from the perspective of discovery and play. Pelikan’s CLIC furniture line demonstrates his personal values of modernity, industrial reproducibility, clarity of use and function and absence of decoration.

Bamboo is fast-growing, yields a dense wood within five years and, once the wood is harvested, new shoots appear immediately. Pelikan’s CLICDINER chair is made from heat-processed bamboo sheet material; this process gives the bamboo a caramel colour and protection against mildew. Four chairs can be made from a single sheet, thus eliminating most scraps. The chair’s architecture, the CLICSYSTEM, is a system of connections and joints that optimize the elasticity of bamboo; each component clicks into its corresponding part. No hardware is needed, and each piece can be easily exchanged if it wears out; the pieces are also interchangeable with the rest of the CLIC line, which can be produced on any scale.
