Wood in Progress

Envisions is a design laboratory based in Eindhoven. It was founded in 2016 and unites more than 20 multidisciplinary designers who conduct material research and research into production processes. Driven by a strong affinity to challenge the industry to anticipate a clean future, Envisions collaborates with established companies and inspires them to rethink their production processes.

Envisions’ first experimental collaboration, Wood in Process, was conducted with Spanish medium-density fibreboard (MDF) manufacturer Finsa. Six of this research collaboration’s results were further developed in Finsa’s factories, resulting in the collection Wood in Progress. The collection shows the untapped potential of MDF materials and techniques in limiting waste and offering alternatives to dwindling raw materials. Many of the designs for Wood in Progress involve waste wood that is dyed or pulverised and glued or pressed together to form new planks and building materials.
