Pop Up Lace

Petra Vonk is a textile designer who focuses on architecture and interior design. She plays with the properties of various materials and techniques, creating surprising and new applications or materialities. She uses repetition in abstract patterns, experimenting with transparency, contrast, and colour.

Precision-cutting polyester fabric with a laser results in a high-tech lace. The polyester melts, giving the textile glossiness and intense colour. If a colour is applied to the back of the textile, the paint pigment melts with the polyester on the areas treated by the laser; the colour gains a rich clarity and is visible both on the back and on the front. Vonk’s innovative computer technique creates a high-tech product with a handmade feel and applications in interiors. The use of eco-intelligent polyester as well as recycled materials makes Pop Up Lace a surprising innovation that enhances aesthetic qualities of the spaces it inhabits.
