Jacob de Baan. Manufacturing DARK
IJ-Lamp
Jacob de Baan is a self-described passenger, traveling between Amsterdam and Istanbul. Inspired by natural light on the Bosphorus or the North Sea, de Baan’s lighting design mimics how light is experienced in natural environments.
The IJ-Lamp is made of plastic, bronze, or copper, and consists of elements that can be combined in a variety of ways. The IJ-Lamp comprises two identical black andor white shades and a coloured filter which are held together by a light socket, creating a bulbous and playful lamp that is recognisably customisable. The light, which can stand or be mounted on a wall or suspended, is easy to take apart. No glue or screws are used for easy assembly. Produced in the Netherlands, the caps are lightweight and stackable, which saves transport costs. The type of plastic used is extremely long-lasting and almost entirely recyclable.
