Noorderparkar

Bureau SLA is an Amsterdam-based architecture firm founded by Peter van Assche. SLA initiates projects in urban communities that it believes will improve liveability in the city. Overtreders W is an architecture firm led by Hester van Dijk and Reinder Bakker, who consider themselves the ‘mavericks of the Dutch architecture scene’. They collaborate with other firms in projects that upend the traditional progression from resources to building materials to waste – Overtreders W believes these three material phases should be of equal value.

Bureau SLA and Overtreders W collaborated on the design and execution of Noorderparkbar, a café in Noorderpark in Amsterdam-Noord. The idea was to use only building materials sourced on www.marktplaats.nl, the Netherlands’ online free marketplace. The collaborators started with no design. As each material was purchased, the design became clearer and took shape in the form of an entirely second-hand building that looks brand-new.
